Saon Crispim Vieira
Assistant Professor | Energy Department (FEM / UNICAMP)
Assistant Professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Energy Department at UNICAMP since 2026. Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in Thermal and Fluids (2022), Master’s in Petroleum Science and Engineering (2018), and B.Sc. in Control and Automation Engineering (2007) from UNICAMP, with executive diplomas in Financial Economics (UNICAMP, 2017) and Petroleum Engineering (Petrobras, 2009). Worked for 18 years at Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. – Petrobras (2008–2026) as Senior Petroleum Engineer and Technical Consultant in digital transformation for offshore production monitoring.
He has extensive industrial and R&D experience in the energy sector, participating in the design, implementation, and operation of offshore projects. He is the founder and head of PHI Lab — Laboratory for Physics-informed Hybrid Intelligence (associated with ALFA Lab / CEPETRO / FEM / UNICAMP), leading research in Multiphase Flows, Artificial Lift, Flow Assurance, and Boosting Systems. His research interests integrate technological development with data science, investigating Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) and Physics-Informed Machine Learning with differentiable models for virtual sensor development, hybrid modeling, and real-time optimization of complex production systems. Inventor of patented technologies (INPI/USPTO) applied to multiphase flows, honored with the Petrobras Inventor Award and the Unicamp Inventors Award.
